Thanks to Deborah’s negotiations with the family, particularly Janice and Rachel, this event was held on Sunday 11th September. It was a beautiful day and Coach Becky’s arrangements ensured a smoothly run tournament with twelve juniors competing, ages 8 to 16. The players were in two groups and all played all in each group for a match consisting of eleven points. This round was followed by a semi-final and final. There was some excellent tennis played with a high level of sportsmanship. This high standard indicates that local tennis clubs will have some top players as these young people mature.

Winner --         Ned Stattasfield

Runner Up --    Cameron Raven

Third --            Piers Henderson

Fourth --          Daisy Waddison

Nominated for Sportsmanship by Coach Becky -- Ella Warnes & Ethan Keeler

The late Colin Palmer’s daughters explained the background to the tournament and gave each player a medallion, as well as presenting the winner with their trophies, including the Colin Palmer Cup to Ned.

Thanks are due to Deborah for all her arrangements in advance, to Becky for managing the Tournament on the day and to Paula, Mike and Adrian for acting as umpires.

The club thanks Rachel and Janice, Colin’s daughters, for the medals, trophies and refreshments and for their enthusiasm in supporting the tournament founded to remember all the contributions Colin made to the club.
